A suspected New People’s Army rebel who escaped from his military escorts in Digos City in Davao last Wednesday was recaptured by members of the Philippine National Police at his hiding place late Thursday evening, PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group chief Director Benjamin B. Magalong said yesterday.
Ritchie Abrenica was tracked down at his hideout in Purok Kalubihan in Bgy. Cogon, Digos City by members of the CIDG Eastern Mindanao and the Digos City police with the help of local barangay officials and Community Investigative Support officials, Magalong said.
Abrenica was arrested by soldiers from the Army’s 73rd Infantry Battalion during a combat operation in Malita area and was charged with illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
However, he escaped from his Army escorts while having dinner at the CIDG field office in Digos City last Wednesday.
Magalong said a separate frustrated murder case will be filed against the suspect for assaulting a CIDG agent identified as Police Officer 3 Bernard Minoza.
