BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – Two government troopers were wounded in an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas in the town of Alfonso Castaneda on Wednesday.
Reports said troops from the Army’s 7th Infantry Batallion based in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija, were patrolling in Sitio Manial, Barangay Lublub when they chanced upon a group of rebels at around 6 a.m.
Sgt. Benjamin Macarrubbo and Pfc. Christopher Estellore were wounded in the firefight and were taken to a hospital in Nueva Ecija for treatment.
