NSFA, PANACAN, Davao City, 16 March 2015 – Joint elements of the 29th Infantry Battalion and the 13th Regional Public Safety Battalion scored anew against an undetermined number of NPA bandits at Himbangan, Kicharao Agusan Del Norte at about 8:20 in the morning of March 16, 2015.
The troops were patrolling amidst the reported extortion being conducted by the NPA bandits in the area, when they were fired upon erupting in a 30-minute skirmish before the bandits scampered to different directions.
The encounter resulted to the killing of one NPA bandit and the recovery of three M16 rifles, two AK 47 rifles and one M203 Grenade Launcher.
"The community can no longer bear the extortion demands and intimidation of the NPA bandits so they reported their presence to the AFP, which jointly responded with the PNP as part of its mandate to protect the communities and uphold the people's right to live peacefully." Lt Col Adonis Ariel Orio, Battalion Commander of 29th IB narrated.
In a separate incident an NPA bandit was captured after he was wounded during an encounter between the elements of the 75th Infantry Battalion and NPA bandits at Cagumay, Sta Cruz, Rosario, Agusan Del Sur at 8 am of March 16, 2015.
Accordingly the encounter came after a member of the community approached the patrolling troops led by Sgt Jessie S Felicerta and tipped off the presence of NPA bandits in the area.
"We appreciate the cooperation of the community as we continue to work for peace to reign in their midst. This cooperation manifests their desire to live a peaceful life, free from NPA intimidation and coercion" Lt Gen Aurelio Baladad, Commander of Eastern Mindanao Command said.
