A government soldier was wounded on Friday morning after a land mine was allegedly set off by the New People's Army in Irosin, Sorsogon.
The soldier was identified as Private First Class Jerlou Fiesta, according to Armed Forces of the Philippines Southern Luzon Command spokesman Major Angelo Guzman.
At the time of the explosion, Fiesta was aboard a civilian vehicle as part of the AFP's Disaster Response Team en route to Irosin to establish a disaster risk reduction post in preparation for Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit).
The victim was rushed to the Irosin District Hospital and is currently in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the AFP is conducting pursuit operations against the NPA.
"During these moments where we are facing another natural calamity threat, it is very inhumane for the NPA to launch offensives versus soldiers on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response operations," Major General Ricardo Visaya, SOLCOM commander, said.
