THREE soldiers were wounded in an encounter with suspected members of New People’s Army (NPA) the other night in Barangay Bugbuga, Sta Cruz, llocos Sur.
Philippine Army’s 7th Infantry Division (ID) spokesman Captain Mark Anthony Ruelos said the encounter occurred at around 8 p.m. in a remote area in Barangay Bugbuga.
The wounded victims were identified as Privates Rey Bajar, Sam Garote and Joseph Bayugan.
Captain Ruelos said elements of Army’s 81st Infantry Battalion (IB) were conducting patrol operation in the area when they encountered the rebels.
A firefight immediately occurred and lasted for about 15 minutes leaving three soldiers wounded.
According to Captain Ruelos, the soldiers opted not to fire their guns when the rebels took cover in the community.
The wounded soldiers were rushed to the hospital in Candon City for first aid and later transferred to the military hospital in the 7th Infantry Division in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija and flown to AFP Medical Center in V.Luna, Quezon City.
The spokesman said they believed the enemy also incurred injuries based on the blood stain seen in the encounter site.
