DAVAO CITY – At least five New People’s Army (NPA) members were killed in an encounter with government forces on Tuesday afternoon, a report from army’s 10th Infantry Division (10th ID) said.
10th ID commander Major General Eduardo Año said elements of 27th Infantry Battalion were responding to reports of the presence of armed men in the area when they encountered around 20 NPA members in Sitio Tubak, Barangay Nomoh, Maasim town in Sarangani province.
Three bodies of NPA rebels were recovered by the soldiers during the clearing operations while another two were killed as reported by the civilians in the area.
10th ID information officer Captain Ernest Carolina also said that the government troops recovered four M16 rifles, four M14 rifles, 1 M4 rifle and a baby armalite rifle.
No casualties were reported in the government side.
