Members of the elite ‘Scout Rangers’ of the Philippine Army undergoing
actual field training in the hinterlands of Samar province, have been
credited for the capture of two New People’s Army (NPA) training camps
in the province.
During their send-off ceremony after completing their “test mission” in Samar that begun last July 14, Major Gen. Jet B. Belarmino, commander of the 8th Infantry ‘Stormtroopers’ Division, lauded the 64 members of the SRC Class 189-2013 for their accomplishments.
“I believe that there were times in your training that you feel like giving up, as if you were put into extreme torment, but you never let that overcome you,” Belarmino said in his message.
“Be ready to take on greater responsibility in fighting against unprincipled individuals who intend to obliterate the peace and freedom that we have,” the official added.
Notwithstanding their short stint in the area, the new rangers, coming from the various units of the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police, were credited for the dismantling of the rebels’ camps in Bgy. Capoto-an and Bgy. Poponton, both in Las Navas, Northern Samar, and the recovery of assorted firearms.
As a token of their gratitude, Belarmino has been made an “honorary” member of the group.
The rangers would be returning to their own headquarters at Camp Tecson, San Miguel, Bulacan.
