TEN members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and two govern-ment troops were killed in an encounter at Midsayap town in North Cotabato on Thursday morning.
Maj. Gen. Edmundo Pa-ngilinan, 6th Infantry Division commander, said around 20 armed BIFF members attacked the 40th Infantry Battalion detachment in Barangay Palongogue.
Pangilinan said six soldiers were also wounded in the encounter that
happened at about 6:40 a.m. The death report came from civilians living
in the area
.
.
Authorities are still going after the rebels as of press time.
The rebels first attacked the detachment at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday with no casualties from the government side.
Pangilinan attributed the attacks to the progress in the ongoing peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), which was highlighted by the submission on Wednesday of the draft Bangsa-moro Basic Law to Congress.
