The skies may still be dark for the victims of Yolanda, especially to the children of Visayas, but a little fun like a ray of sunshine is enough to bring a smile on their faces.
In an effort to help children survivors ease off some of the trauma they felt after witnessing the wrath of monster typhoon Yolanda in their hometowns, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) partnered with Teach Peace Build Peace Philippines (TPBP), Young Moro Professionals Network (YMPN) and the Makati Project Grow (MPG) in bringing “PAHIYUM”to the residents of Tent City at Villamor Airbase, Pasay City last Nov. 30, 2013 (Saturday).
The event, also dubbed “A Day of Smile for the Internally Displaced Children caused by Typhoon Yolanda”, was a psycho social intervention designed for 300 kids ages 4 to 12 years old who were
displaced by the typhoon.
Special attention was specifically given to 67 children placed under the care of Department of Social Welfare and Development who lost their families during the onslaught of Yolanda which affected
thousands of residents in Visayas.
thousands of residents in Visayas.
Members of the AFP joined in on the fun by providing transporting and distributing Kiddie Bag from Rizal Village, Alabang to Tent City and performing a Magic Show that momentarily
diverted the thoughts of the participants from the memories that haunted them.
The youth organizations, led by Project Head Bai Rohaniza M. Sumndad-Usman, TPBP Founder & YMPN Chairperson, also had a story telling activity which featured the story
Mighty Adventures of Kapayapaan.
They also engaged the children in games and songs and allowed them to express themselves with art and crafts. To top the occasion, a concert with the Children’s Choir and Ukelele Group was done in the afternoon.
