Troops seize high-powered guns in ComVal clashes

GOVERNMENT troops seized high-powered firearms and other war materiel in two separate encounters with the rebels in Compostela Valley.

AFP Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman Col. Romeo Brawner Jr. said  patrolling members of the 66th Infantry Battalion encountered a group of rebels in New Bataan, Compostela Valley.

The firefight lasted for at least 30 minutes until the rebels fled.

    

There were no reported casualties on both sides.

    

Seized were two VHF radios, two bandoliers for M16 rifle with two magazines, a magazine for AK47, four backpacks, an IED with switch and electrical wire, personal belongings and several subversive documents.

 

On the same day, another encounter occurred between the rebels and members of  the 25th Infantry Battalion in Bgy. Hamiguitan, Mongkayo town.

    

No casualties were reported on both sides but government forces recovered one M16 rifle, one M14 rifle, an AK 47 rifle, a radio, one motorcycle and personal belongings from the clash site.

    

“Our troops will continue to run after these bandits even in their lairs to prevent them from intimidating communities and launching more offensives to accumulate tactical gains in preparation for their anniversary on March 29,” Eastern Mindanao Command commander Lt. Gen. Aurelio Baladad said.
