NSFA, PANACAN, Davao City - NPA bandits reciprocated Government declared SOMO with violence when they waylaid two unarmed soldiers of the 71st Infantry Batallion and one CAFGU at Sitio Barigyan, Brgy Candinuyan, Mabini Comval Province at 9:45, December 29, 2014.
The three identified as 1Lt Ronald C Bautista, Pfc Albert M Amor, CAA Renel G Baluca asked permission to visit their respective families since they were not able to be with them during Christmas Day when the incident took place. They were on civilian clothes, unarmed and aboard a motorcycle traversing the road to Candinuyan when they were mercilessly waylaid and shot point blank on the head by around eight NPA bandits.
The NPAs stripped them off their clothes and carted the personnel belongings of the three and the motorcycle they are riding before fleeing to unknown direction.
Lt General Aurelio Baladad, Commander Eastern Mindanao Command expressed his grief on the incident and vowed to exert efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
"We sympathize with the bereaved relatives of our slain personnel. It is so sad to note that they were killed while on their way to their waiting families who missed them during Christmas as they were tasked to ensure a peaceful yuletide celebration in Candinuyan. We will exert all efforts to bring those responsible to justice for this merciless and cowardly crime." Baladad said.
The AFP has been observing a month-long Suspension of Military Operations (SOMO) since December 18 and has consequently shifted to community services.
General Baladad further said, "Our SOMO was reciprocated by NPAs with violence. Their piecemeal ceasefire is a smoke screen of their true intention and a blatant disregard of the communities' aspirations for a peaceful celebration of the holiday."
