Two soldiers slain in Maguindanao attack

• Two Army soldiers were killed after members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) fired upon the troops while on duty at a government hospital in Maguindanao Wednesday night.

  Col. Dickson Hermoso, spokesman of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division (ID), said that the shooting incident happened at around 8:30 p.m. at the Integrated Provincial Health Office of Maguindanao in Barangay Limpongo, Datu Hoffer.

  According to Hermoso, seven BIFF members were involved in the shooting of the two Army soldiers, assigned to the 45th Infantry Battalion (IB), who were securing the newly-renovated IPHO-Maguindanao.

  The two soldiers were manning the entrance of the hospital’s emergency room when they were fired upon by the BIFF.

  Hermoso added that the BIFF disguised as bringing a patient to the said hospital.

  “The perpetrators carted away the issued M16 and M14 rifles of the victims and fled. Pursuit operation is ongoing,” Hermoso said.

  The BIFF is a breakaway faction of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front which has signed a peace agreement with the government.
