Guerrero is new 3ID chief



Camp Peralta, Jamindan, Capiz – Major General Rey Leonardo B Guerrero has assumed the post of the Army’s 3rd Infantry “Spearhead” Division during the change of command held Thursday September 4 in Camp Peralta, Jamindan, Capiz.

Born in Manila, Guerrero replaced Major General Aurelio B Baladad who has been named commander of the AFP’s Eastern Mindanao Command based in Davao.

Lieutenant General Hernando DCA Iriberri, Commanding General of the Philippine Army was the Presiding General Officer during the change of command ceremony which was attended by the local government officials, the PNP, the media, friends, field commanders and the men and women of 3ID.

In his message, MGen Guerrero reaffirmed the commitment of the 3rd Infantry Division to “win the peace” in Western Visayas in line with the AFP Internal Peace and Security Plan “Bayanihan” and sustain the grounds gained in its internal peace and security operations.

Guerrero said, “We will continue to work closely with our partners and stakeholders so that social and economic issues in the community can be appropriately and swiftly addressed.”

Guerrero served as the Chief of Staff of the Philippine Army prior to his assignment as the 3ID commander.

Guerrero stressed that “We will also work hard in order to attain the goals of the Army Transformation Roadmap and realize its vision to be a world class Army that is a source of national pride. We will pursue good governance and levelling up of our capability down to the subordinate units of the Division.”

MGen Guerrero has been exposed to various operational areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Among his command field duties are: Commander of 701st Infantry Brigade in Davao Oriental; Commander of Task Force Davao; Commander, Task Force Lapu-Lapu, PSG during the 12th ASEAN Summit in Cebu; Commander of the Presidential Guard Battalion, PSG; Commander of the Presidential Escort Battalion, PSG; Commander of the 61st Infantry Battalion in Negros Island; Commander of the 14th Intelligence and Security Unit, ISG in the National Capital Region; Commander, Counter Intelligence Detachment in NCR, Quezon Province and Bicol Region and Team Leader of the Special Forces Team, Special Forces Regiment (Airborne) in Zamboanga Del Norte and Basilan.

MGen Guerrero is no stranger to the people of Western Visayas as he was the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, G2 and the Chief of Staff of the 3rd Infantry Division, aside from serving as the Commanding Officer of the 61st Infantry Battalion in Negros Island.

With MGen Gurrero’s vast experience in the area of 3ID, the people of Western Visayas can be assured of the Army’s commitment in bringing peace and development in the countryside in collaboration with the local government units, other government agencies, the civil society organizations, and other stakeholders by fostering “Bayanihan”.

“With the level of professionalism of the men and women of 3ID, we will continue to serve selflessly with the highest degree of commitment and dedication in the performance of our duty with utmost respect for the rights of our people.”

MGen Guerrero graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1984. Regarded as a person who always strives for excellence, he graduated number 3 from his class in PMA out of 215. He was also consistently on top of his class in his military schooling and trainings.

His awards in the military include two (2) Distinguished Service Stars, Order of Lakandula, Philippine Legion of Honor, Outstanding Achievement Medal, three Bronze Cross Medals for bravery, Silver Wing Medal, Two (2) Gawad sa Kaunlaran Medals, Twenty Seven (27) Military Merit Medals, Commendation Medals and various Campaign Medals and Ribbons.

MGen Guerrero is married to the former Jayne Revatores and blessed with four children.
