PILI, Camarines Sur – The retirement of its former commanding general gave way to another traditional change of command in the 9th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, in Camp Elias Angeles in Pili, Camarines Sur last August 10, Saturday.
Major General Romeo Calizo formally handed the authority over the units of 9ID to Brigadier General Yerson Depayso as he took his exit from the military service after more than 30 years.
Calizo said that he is glad that despite only a little over a year of being the commander of 9ID, he was able to make true his promise of providing more projects and campaigns that enlightened Bicolanos of the importance of living in peace together.
He was particularly referring to the significant decrease of insurgent activities in Bicol and the subsequent success of the military in handling calamities and conflicts in areas in Sorsogon and Masbate.
Depayso, who is a one-star general poised to achieve his second star soon this year, said that he plans to continue the good practices of the division.
He admitted that he is glad to be back in service of Bicol after 31 years of absence when he was transferred to other units in Mindanao.
He said that Bicol was among the first places where he was assigned by the Army.
Before coming to 9ID, Depayso held the position of Assistant Division Commander of 10th Infantry Division based in Camp General Manuel T. Yan, Sr. in Tuboran, Mawab, Compostella Valley.
Major General Samuel Narbuada, Army Inspector General, presided over the turn-over as representative of Lt. Gen. Noel Coballes, Commanding General of the Philippine Army after the latter’s flight to Bicol was cancelled due to bad weather.
